The SkinCARE Project

The SkinCARE Project is a medical student-led initiative dedicated to providing essential dermatologic care to Canada's homeless population. By enhancing skin health knowledge and offering practical solutions, The SkinCARE Project strives to improve the overall well-being of those we serve.

Originally founded in Hamilton (Ontario) this project offers comprehensive skin care kits and educational resources to individuals in need through shelter health clinics and drop-in spaces. While the current focus is in Hamilton, The SkinCARE Project's vision extends across Canada, aiming to empower shelters and communities to assemble and distribute the vital items and resources in these kits. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Protecting the Skin - The First Shelter for the Unhoused

The SkinCARE Project is proud to share the Skin Wellness Booklet as a resource for those experiencing homelessness as well as those that are looking to help these individuals. This booklet contains information on how to optimize hygiene while living on the street (with details on susceptible areas such as the feet), how to avoid sunburns and frostbite, and how to recognize some common skin conditions or infections.

The soon to be released SkinCARE Kit Guide to will serve as a "How-To" for anyone interested in helping their local homeless, but are unsure where to begin. We will share tips on what to include in the kits, how to garner donations, adapting the kits to your population, and distributing them within that target population.
