Owen Schlosser was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta in a big family of six children.

Owen, 21 years-old, was a student in the Industrial Design program at the University of Alberta, and was particularly interested in architecture and car design. He began his university career in the Physical Education program, but ended up in the design program where he was able to thoroughly use his artistic skills. He always enjoyed competition and being active as a soccer player, a tennis player and a tennis coach.
Owen discovered a lump in one of his lymph nodes. After several tests and scans, Owen was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma. It was a shock to him and his family as he very rarely fell ill and had not been excessively exposed to the sun. Owen’s primary was not found. Nevertheless, Owen was prepared to fight this cancer with the support of his friends and family around him. He decided to try a new drug called Ipilimumab as his first approach to treatment through a trial being run out of Florida. This drug was accompanied with two other chemo drugs.
Owen lost his battle June 2 2009, 4 months after his diagnosis. Owen's family sincerely appreciate all of the support and encouragement they’ve received from family, friends and even strangers.
A community of volunteers determined to eliminate melanoma through research and education, and dedicated to those touched by it.
